TNet on iOS/Android without Unity Pro
« on: February 28, 2014, 05:41:46 PM »
A few months ago, I've bought TNet for my next project. This is really a great asset, and everything worked fine, until I thought it'd be nice to have it on mobile. The big problem is - I don't have Pro licenses for iOS/Android, but... I've decided to make it work no matter what.
That resulted in an asset that allows to use Sockets without the need for a Pro license. TNet works with it without any problems, so I thought it may become useful not just for me.

So, here it is:
Good ol' Sockets
TNet works with this asset in just a single click.

Hope this will come in handy for non-Pro mobile developers :)

P.S. I feel a bit sorry for posting this here. I really wanted to share this because it can help a lot of people to run TNet on mobile devices without the need to buy Unity Pro, but this is still basically an advertisement of my asset (and I haven't found a more appropriate place to post this)... Please move or delete this thread if you find it inappropriate.

Sounds very interesting.  Has anyone tried it? Does everything work? UDP?

Well, I can't convice anyone by just saying "it works", but I'm actually using it myself, and everything I've tried so far works (including UDP).
Also, if you want - PM me with your email and I'll send you a free evaluation copy. Just for the sake of it :)

TNet looks just about perfect regarding its license and base features (source code available, no CCU limit, studio license, no need to connect to the internet to validate a license) - the only reason I refrained from buying so far is that mobile support* was missing. But since that seems to be fixable (after all, Photon offers it's PUN+ package for non-pro users), I searched here if that was already planned - just to find this thread! :D

Thanks a lot for your work, ZimM! Next time I want to make a networked multiplayer game, I'll probably buy TNet and your package! :)

edit: *) mobile support with the non-pro license

TNet supports mobiles just fine, but you needed Unity Pro. ZimM's addon seems to remove that limitation making it usable in the free version of Unity.

Yeah, I know, sorry for not being clear on that - I meant "mobile support for non-pro mobile". Not everyone has the extra +$3000 needed for those iOS/Android Pro licenses :)
