getting started with NGUI and Space shooter kit..
« on: April 21, 2012, 02:51:36 PM »
Hi Aren,

I'd like to thank you for your effort making these tools: I am totally new at the game making thing, but I've purchased the space game maker kit and NGUI from the unity asset store. The recommendations are yelling "ease of use" which I take as a positive sign that this is something I might just be able to get the hang of :-)

I wonder is there a cheat sheet that shows how to get both asset packs (SS and NGUI) up and running together? I'm just getting my feet wet with scripting and think I have a way to go just to get them up and running in my unity..

For example:

I have a very nooby question regarding NGUI (which is what I'm trying to focus on right now).
At the moment I'm struggling a bit with the NGUI tutorials - probably through sheer ignorance: I don't get the NGUI menu option in the top menu bar, which is refered to in the very first demos.., although I see the folder hierarchy appearing in the project panel there is no NGUI menu option.. Do I need to activate something? I have imported the NGUI from asset store and I think I deleted the freeware version properly as described.

Thanks for any advice.

Mike in Norway.

Oof. Unfortunately the space game kit doesn't merge with NGUI that easily. This is mainly because the space game contains NGUI version 0.1 -- the prototype UI I created a few months before I even started working on NGUI. It also contains a bunch of similarly named classes that you will need to rename. All in all, it will be easier if I just give you a single project that already has them both merged. You won't get the tutorials in that project, but NGUI will be present. Just email me the asset store receipt and I'll hook you up.

I've sent you the merged version, and I've also sent an update to the asset store, making the SGSK project merge with NGUI easier (no more classes to rename).
