TNet Roadmap
« on: May 21, 2014, 01:00:59 PM »
Just curious if you have a roadmap planned for 2014 for future ideas for TNet (same goes for NGUI)

Thanks!

Currently there are two features on my "Soon™" roadmap -- server migration (similar to how host migration works but with actual servers), and region-based messages. I am not 100% certain on how I want to approach the latter just yet -- whether I want to make it possible for players to "subscribe" to certain regions (think joining multiple channels at the same time) or have the server have some kind of a position associated with the player and certain types of RFCs that would only arrive if the player is close enough.

Very cool, TNet already supports a great host migration doesn't it?  I can imagine Server Migration adding a pretty interesting dynamic, would you use server migration in cases of load balancing, or is load balancing something entirely different.

Yup, host migration is seamless, but if one of the players is also running the server and he happens to lose his internet connection it'd be nice if one of the other players picked up the slack.

That would be awesome.

I'm glad I saw this post because doing that was on my TODO list :)

Is there an approximate date for regions?

It's going to be one of those spur of the moment features for me as usual. I often wake up some days and just feel an idea come to me and get crackin'.
