NGUI Fonts with BMFont - That's how you get the best result
« on: January 03, 2013, 07:43:27 AM »
Heyho community,

i just want to share to you guys how to get the best results with fonts in BMFont for NGUI. I did some testing and the following settings will give you the clearest fonts, as far as i can see.

Hope it will help :)

It seems BMFont 1.13 sucks donkey nuts when it comes to producing clear fonts for me. BMFont 1.12 was exporting fonts correctly. I say size 20, and it exports size 20. BMFont 1.13? Exports size 19 instead. WTF.

And I see no link to download an older version...

I also have that problem with the font size and im using the version 1.13 since i started working with NGUI.
Here's a download link http://download.swiborg.com/software/bmfont-1.12.exe for the version 1.12, ill try it and compare the results

Ok turns out it's not 1.12 vs 1.13. I tried 1.12 on that PC and got the same results. 1.12 on a different PC produces proper results though. The hell?

Get any of this crap sorted out? I downloaded BMFont today on my laptop and kept getting WHITE damn textures when using Glyph one one one for my settings.  It only shows an image with 8 bit set, not 32.

This works fine on my other PC at home.... I'm getting the same damn frustrating "not my fault" problems as you even if they're different.  Same version, different PCs, different results.

I use the exact same settings as what's in this picture except I don't use supersampling, but either way... empty white texture even though "Visualize" clearly shows the entire font image.

8 bit is the default depth setting. You have to tell it to be 32.

Yea I matched the settings above with 32 set and it only exports a white blank texture, but set to 8 I see the export.  Also on 32 the visualize works but actually saving the font results in nothin.  I had this process completely streamlined and working... not sure what has happened but something is broken and it's not on my side.
