Tasharen Water - Surface Shadows (ie - Receive Shadows = true)

I love the Tasharen Water shader, it looks fantastic. Does anyone know if it is possible to get surface shadows to appear on the water shader by clicking Receive Shadows. I would sacrifice the translucency of the water for surface shadows.

The water itself doesn't write to depth, so it can't receive shadows. If you want it to receive shadows then there won't be any shadows on the ground below it. You can likely achieve it by modifying the shader to write to depth, but Unity is not particularly flexible here from my experience.
