TNet 3.0 upgrade guide
« on: January 07, 2016, 04:55:58 AM »
Hi.

I'm currently developing with an older version of TNet (2.0.6), but would like to update now. Now I've got some questions:

1. Will the update from 2.x to 3.x cost something?
2. Should I upgrade first to the latest 2.x (2.1.1) version before updating to 3.0?
3. Will there be major changes I should keep in mind when updating?

1. On the Asset Store TNet 3 will be a separate package, in a different category (editor extensions) with a different price, and yes -- about $25.
2. No need.
3. Aside from the new features, the main noticeable change (and also what breaks backwards compatibility with older TNet-based saves) is the addition of multi-channel support. All functions default their behaviour to how TNet 2 used to work though -- so you may not even notice it when you upgrade. I am also keeping a separate TNet 2-compatible package for those that need it that has most of the enhancements of TNet 3, but maintains its backwards compatibility with TNet 2. Its downside -- no multi-channel support.

Forgive my very belated reply, but I'd like to ask a question about upgrading, and this topic fits.
The "current version" sticky tells us that 3.0 is already available to Pro customers. I picked up my copy of TNet on the Asset Store when I did, and I never quite got around to upgrading, which would have been quite useful, in hindsight. If I do it now, will that count as upgrading to TNet 3 and living happily ever after?

There is no upgrade available on the Asset Store yet. Professional users get access to the Pro repository that I use for development as well, so they naturally have access to the latest everything. Existing TNet 2 license holders can choose to upgrade to the Pro level access if they want, which would mean they too would get the github repository access along with the latest TNet 3 changes. Also note that all TNet 2 license holders can request preview builds of TNet 3 to try out by emailing me their OR#.

Yeah, I knew there isn't an Asset Store option. In that case, I'll get in touch with you through the "official" contact form and request a Pro license tomorrow morning. Would be good to get this done before I forget again. Thanks for being as awesome and quick to reply as usual.
