Ngui and Unity 4.0beta
« on: November 02, 2012, 05:53:11 AM »
I maybe completely missing something obvious, so please excuse if this is a daft question but following some slow Android loading times seen in 3.5.x I've been forced to install the 4.0 beta (earlier than I would like) to try and see if it fixes the issue and after copying the 3.5.5 project folder I tried opening in 4.0beta with not much success.  Ngui is no longer listed in the component list and every single Ngui script says 'The associate script can not be loaded.  Please fix compiler errors and assign a valid script.'

This isn't just limited to Ngui scripts, nearly all if not all my custom scripts are reporting the same error.

What's going on?  What am I missing?

I have a feeling you have done something wrong. I would try to copy the folder over again and ensure that the scripts are there. FYI as of to RC3 is out i would suggest picking it up instead of using the Beta.

I just opened a couple different projects using Unity 4 RC3 and they all work fine.

I thought I must be....it was a late night last night :P

I can't find RC3 release only this one http://unity3d.com/unity/beta/download (UnitySetup-4.0.0f3.exe)  or is this rc3 you're referring too?  They call it public beta although I did get the pre-order beta version (UnitySetup-4.0-beta7.exe) when it first came out but thought the public beta must be more stable and up to date.

I'll try again although all the scripts are present in the same folder structure as before and I have (re-) imported Ngui via the asset store and yet it still doesn't appear.

yea F3 is final3 which in my mind is Release Candidate 3 (RC3) :). So if thats the one your using i'm not too sure maybe you have to reinstall it as something might be wrong?

Ok thanks for clarifying.

I'm really confused with this one.  I make an exact copy of the existing 3.5.6 project folder and rename 4.0beta and on opening in 4.0beta it upgrades the project but has all the errors of non valid scripts can't be loaded.  If I create a new project and install the Ngui package it works as expected and yet the folder structure appears to be the same.  The same goes for multi-platform kit, which I have installed also.  It appears to not recognise them after upgrading the project but will import them fine into a new project.  Any ideas??

I'm going to try the re-install now, or maybe install the re-order beta version first to see it that suffers the same.

I think I may have found the cause of the issue - I was getting an error with a non Ngui script which works in 3.5.6 but complains in 4.0 and with this single error Unity was is showing errors on all scripts.  Once the script it removed or fixed the other problems go away and all is as it should be.  I didn't realise a single error on one script could cause so many error messages but appear to have it fixed now.  Thanks for help.

Hmm thats a new one. I know that if it hits a error during compilation that it will sometimes not have everything else proper but thats usually pretty easy to find. You mind me asking what compiled in 3.5.6 but not in 4.0?

You Should Delete any new Script.
