UIInput problem on iOS

I'm having a problem with UIInputs. The carat shows up fine on the PC but it doesn't show up on the iPad. Is this intended behavior and is there a way to have the carat show up on iOS?

Intended behaviour because there is no way to retrieve caret position / selection info from the OS within Unity.
